A few days before we moved to the new apartment we attempted to use up as much of the food from the refrigerator as we could instead of moving it. We did too good of a job…
The stove at the new apartment is gas with an electric oven. What we assumed was that it had self igniting pilot lights. It doesn’t. We didn’t discover this until we were going to get dinner ready on Saturday evening and we had no matches and no stores open. We ended up using the last two slices of bread and lunch meat. That and sliced up cabbage was it for dinner. Dog didn’t do much better. I failed to box up his dry dog food. He ended up with one small can of dog food and the heel from the loaf of bread.
As we were unpacking a couple of the suitcases that evening, wouldn’t ya know it, we came across matches! At least we could heat hot water for oatmeal and instant coffee in the morning.
It appears the upstairs dogs’ purpose in life is to bark at every sound. As I was taking Shep for a walk, the Spaniel was in the yard. She stayed as far from us as she possibly could and barked. Once we were outside of the gate and she knew it was safe she comes charging up to the fence barking and growling. Somehow I don’t think they are going to be the best of buddies. Maybe they will get used to each other this summer.
As I said before, we only get three television stations. Mike had a satellite dish at the old apartment so we were able to pickup a half dozen English stations. The majority of those were news channels with a few sports stations (European sports). However, at 10:00pm each night they had a rerun of Jay Leno from the night before. We watched Leno several times. Back in Michigan it didn’t come on until 11:30pm so this was a big treat for us.
The Czech’s played Canada in hockey the past two nights. Two thirds of the way through the second period the station goes out. What the?? Hockey is serious business here! The first night we were here that same channel went off the air. The other two stations still came in so it couldn’t e the TV. Same thing happened last night only this time in the first period. The game was tied and the station goes off the air!
It just happened Mike called later in the evening. Jack mentioned to him that people must really get upset with that particular station continually going off the air. Mike had no idea what we were talking about. Then it dawned on him. He said it was our TV and not the station. There is some sort of tuning on TVs and that the person who rented this apartment had a satellite dish so the TV wasn’t tuned properly for just regular rabbit ears. Learn something new every day.
